MIRES. Mires is a small agricultural town in the heart of the Messara plain in the central south of the Greek island of Crete. In this region are large areas of olive groves and grapevines. In Mires are approximately 7000 inhabitants who are mainly engaged in agriculture. In Mires are many shops, restaurants, cafes and even some larger supermarkets as residents from the surrounding villages come here to do their shopping. Every Saturday there is a nice market and it is very crowded. The market is visited by many tourists during summer. Mires is also the administrative centre of the Municipality of Phaistos.
