Porto Karras (Porto Carras). Porto Karras is located on the west coast of the peninsula Sithonia, 60 kilometers (37 mi) from Polygyros and 122 km (76 mi) from Thessaloniki.
It is a big resort south of the town Neos Marmaras. Basically, it is a huge area, occupied by three large luxury hotels. These belong to the Karras family. Opened in 1973, the development has left a mark on the whole area.
The Porto Karras area takes is eighteen thousand hectares (69 square miles) large. The three hotels located here are Meliton Beach, Sithonia Beach and Village Inn. There are golf courses, pads for helicopters, riding schools, shops, restaurants and even wineries where you can taste the local wines. There is also a casino and several beautiful private beaches.
Porto Karras is very famous in Greece because of the wine production. At Mount Meliton they have their own vineyards. With those grapes they produce different types of wine such as Malagouzia, Assirtiko, Roditis and other types of wine. Wine trails have been mapped from Porto Karras to the vineyards. Porto Karras also has its own marina and a private spa.
