Dafni. Dafni is the harbor area of the Holy Mount Athos. It's the harbor where the boats, especially coming from Ouranoupolis, arrive. Here there is a customs office, a police station, a cafe, several shops and some warehouses. From here, buses depart to all kind of monasteries including the capital Karyes.
To get there you must first request a residence permit (diamonitirion). This is a kind of visa that is mandatory and which can be requested via the Athos Consulate in Thessaloniki, phone number is 0030-2310-252575. To get the permit, the Orthodox pay around 25 Euros, the non-Orthodox pay 35 euros. One can stay a maximum of four days. You will stay in a monastery or in village communities.
Mind you, Dafni is located in the Autonomous Monastic State of the Holy Mountain (Agion Oros) and is not accessible to women.
