Nikiti - Halkidiki (Greece)
Nikiti. Nikiti is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Halkidiki. Approximately 2,500 inhabitants live in this town. It is located on the peninsula Sithonia, 36 kilometers (22 mi) from Polygyros and 96 kilometers (60 mi) from Thessaloniki.
Nikiti is a popular tourist town on the west coast of the peninsula Sithonia. In the summer, terraces along the coastline are crowded with tourists. At the harbor of Nikiti you’ll notice hundreds of tourist boats, fishing boats and yachts. There are many restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. In the wider area of Nikiti are nice beaches like Askamnia, Lagada, Kortessa, Kastri and Agios Ioannis. Throughout the area, hotels and rooms are available and there are also a number of campsites.
The northern part of Nikiti is the most traditional part of the village. It is called Agios Nikitas. A walk in this neighborhood will give you a true taste of the atmosphere of the past. Houses are built with stone and the red ceramic tiles with ornamental gardens provide a pleasant atmosphere.
In and around Nikiti are many historic churches that are worth visiting. There are also excavations that prove the area was inhabited in ancient times. In Greece, Nikiti is known for its honey production. Every year on September 15th the feast of Agios Nikitas is celebrated. This festivity is accompanied by music and dance.
