Kassiopi - Corfu (Greece)
KASSIOPI. Kassiopi is a coastal village in the northwest of the Greek island of Corfu. The name ‘Kassiopi’ consists of the words ‘Kassi’ which means ‘border’, and ‘Opia’ which means ‘viewpoint’. It is of course because of its position, overlooking the sea to Albania, the name ‘Kassiopi’ derives from. Kassiopi is a nice touristic village where the traditional aspects of the village have been maintained.
In Kassiopi you won’t find many big hotels but small apartments and villas. That’s one of the reasons the environment has remained pretty. Kassiopi is located 36 km north of Corfu town. On one of the promontories at Kassiopi is a ruin of a castle from the 13th century. Along the lively waterfront and in the village are nice terraces and many shops. The harbour is in a bay, when you walk up on the western side of the bay you will come upon the remains of the Castle. Here is also a bar-restaurant from where the view over the Ionian sea is beautiful. Down at the pebble beach you can enjoy swimming, all kinds of water sports and you can even hire a boat.
