Paliki is the peninsula in western Kefalonia. The northern part is more mountainous than the southern part. Paliki is accessible via the village of Kardakata, with the exit towards the peninsula. The road runs along the bay and after the village of Agios Dimitrios, you arrive in Lixouri, the largest town in this region. The most famous seaside resorts here are Lepeda and in the south Xi beach and Kounopetra. At the village of Manzavinata is Maspali, a special rock hill that from a long distance looks like a castle. On the west coast lies the Kipoureon monastery on a rock 100 meters high.
When you come from Kardakata, you can choose to turn right to Petani where one of the most beautiful beaches of Kefalonia is. The whole west coast of Kefalonia is very steep with high rocks, many beaches are not there and those there are hardly accessible by car. In the north of Paliki, 4 kilometers after the mountain village of Atheras, is the sandy beach of Porto Atheras. This beach is in a beautiful little bay and is ideal for families with little children because the water is very shallow.
