AGIA EFIMIA. Agia Efimia (Kefalonia) is a small tourist port and town, 31 kilometres northeast of Argostoli and 9 kilometres north of Sami. It has been named after the eponymous church located here. Agia Efimia, which belongs to the Municipality of Pylaros, is very popular because there is a cosy harbour and because of the beautiful beaches in the area like e.g. the famous Myrtos Beach which is 8 km away from the village.
In Agia Efimia there is a pebble beach next to the harbour and a pebble beach to the north of the harbour. Around the traditional harbour where all kind of boats moor, there are plenty of cafes, bars, fish tavernas and restaurants. From here boats sail to Sami but also to Ithaca and the Greek mainland (Astakos in Etoloakarnania). In August, there are all kinds of traditional festivities on the 6th and on the 15th of the month. Near Agia Efimia is the Monastery of the Holy Mother Thematon, an important cultural and historical monument. Agia Efimia is a well-kept village with many beautiful houses and mansions that were built in the traditional style of Kefalonia. The village is built on the surrounding green slopes of the hills to the port itself.
