Argostoli - Kefalonia (Greece)
Argostoli is the lively capital of the Greek island of Kefalonia. It lies in the south of the island in the eponymous bay. There is a nice shopping area, lively terraces and a beautiful walkway to the other side of the bay. This Drapanos bridge at the entrance to the city is 900 meters long and, in contrast to most other buildings in Argostoli survived the earthquakes in 1953. The city has a small airport, which lies to the south. It is a modern city and the cultural and commercial centre of the island. The harbour is buzzing. Argostoli is a real Greek town, so between 2pm and 5pm in the afternoon everything is closed, but outside of these hours, it is a lively town. On the central square you will find terraces, cafes and taverna’s. There are also a number of museums located on the square. In Argostoli is one of the largest libraries in Greece with more than 50,000 works. Also, the historical museum and the folk museum are housed in this building. Argostoli is a great base to start exploring the beautiful and unspoiled Kefalonia.
