Koumaradei. Koumaradei is a mountain village on Samos Island, 13 kilometres west of Pythagorion. It is located at about 300 meters altitude, on the slopes of a beautiful wooded mountain, south of the Karvounis Mountains. Koumaradei in the past has been a very rich village, you can still see many beautiful mansions. Some of these are sadly dilapidated. Probably the name derives from the word "Koumaria" that means strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo).
In the village you can admire some very beautiful churches. The inhabitants are mainly farmers. Up on the slopes of the mountain is the provincial road and here are some crafts and souvenir shops located. You can buy handcrafted ceramic cups or other objects and tablecloths. There are some taverns including the taverna 'Panorama'. From the terrace of this taverna you will see an excellent view of the Tigani Bay and in a distance you can see the beach resorts Ireon and Pythagorion.
Halfway to Myloi, south of Koumaradei, is the monastery Moni Panagias Megalis. This monastery was built in the Middle Ages in the year of 1593.
