Athens airport - Attica (Greece)

Athens International Airport. The Athens International Airport bears the name of one of Greece's greatest statesman, "Eleftherios Venizelos". The airport took the place of two older airports (Hellenikon). Work started in 1996 and was completed within the scheduled time, so that the airport could open its doors in March 2001. The distance from Spata, where the airport is situated, to the city center is about 29 km. At this airport, the Greek airlines “Aegean Airlines” and “Olympic Air” have a base and also Ryanair.

Statistics
The year 2014 was a good year for the Eleftherios Venizelos airport, in the period January-November traveled a whopping 14.14 million to, from or via Athens. That is an increase of 2.4 million passengers compared to 2013. According to the airport, there are three major factors that have led to this result:
a. the stabilization of the Greek economy
b. the increased popularity of the city of Athens (a remarkable growth of 31%)
c. the substantial increase in capacity by airlines
