Pyli. The village of Pyli is located about 15 kilometers (9 mi) west of Kos town and eight kilometers (5 mi) south of Marmari, on Kos. This traditional village is built on the slopes of Dikeos Mountain and most residents are farmers. This region of Kos is rich in agricultural products, thanks to the fertile soil. The old stone houses add to its special character.
In the village of Pyli there are several nice Greek kafeneions (coffee houses) and tavernas, as well as a mini market, a butcher and a bakery. In the "Old Pyli," on a hilltop, just outside Pyli, one can see the ruins of a medieval castle. Three small castles are located in the castle. Here you can see the remains of the tomb of the mythical hero Charmylos and a water source with six taps.
At the intersection with the provincial road there is a lake with many ducks. In August, a local cultural association named "Apellis" organizes different events. On April 23, the name day of Aghios Georgios, horse competitions are held. On June 23, the name day of Aghios Ioannis Klidonas, it is a tradition that young women drink "the silent water" to dream of their future husband.
