Mesimvria - Evros (Greece)

Mesimvria. Mesimvria is a small coastal town in the prefecture of Evros, in north-eastern Greece. It is best known for the ancient excavations here that are colonial settlements of residents of the island of Samothrace. They call it Zoni (= Zone) .

At the north of the archaeological site, there are houses from the 5th century BC. The city was walled at the time, had own coins and had a good prosperity. The decline began after the Macedonian, and later Roman rule.

Part of the city is now under water, therefore it is forbidden to swim here, not everything has been discovered since.
