Sikaminia - Lesbos (Greece)
Sikaminea or Sykaminia is a village in the north of the island of Lesbos. It is located approximately eight kilometres east of Molyvos and 36 kilometres north-west of Mytilene. It lies on the slopes of the highest mountain of Lesbos, Lepetimnos and among green surroundings.
This village is the home of the writer Stratis Mirivilis. In addition there is the church of Agia Fotini, the patron saint of the village and the church of Sotiros "the Saviour" which keeps a beautiful wooden iconostasis in the church.
Skala Sikaminea is on the coast, about three kilometers from Sikaminea, it is a typical fishing village with the church of Saint Mary "Panagia Gorgona" and a beautiful sunset. In the colourful harbour are many outdoor cafes. The villages Lepetinos and Argenos lie between dense olive groves.
In this northern area it is also worth a visit to the picturesque mountain villages Stipsi, Kapi, Pelopi and Clio and for a swim in the sea you can visit the beautiful beach of Tsonia.
