Anafonitria - Zakynthos (Greece)
Anafonitria. Anafonitria located in the northwest of the island of Zakynthos, 30 kilometres from Zakynthos Town. In the village are a number of tavernas and is home to approximately 200 people. When you drive through the village, you will see lots of market stalls. The people behind the stalls are local residents who sell their own products such as olive oil, wine and honey but also all kinds of handmade tablecloths and rugs. The village is mostly known for its Monastery, Panagia Anafonitria, where the patron saint of the island, Agios Dionysios, used to live. This monastery was built in the 15th century, at the entrance of this is a medieval tower. Every year here, on August 24, festivals are held in honour of Agios Dionysios. Not far from Anafonitria, there is a nice bay called ‘Vromi’ where the water has beautiful turquoise colours. From here, boats sail to the "attraction" of the island, the famous Navagio (Ship Wreck).
