Agios Ioannis Kastri. Agios Ioannis Kastri is located in the northeast of the Greek island of Skopelos and is accessible from Glossa. Before Glossa is a sign with “Agios Ioannis Kastri” on it and another sign that says "MAMMA MIA'S Agios Ioannis".
This church became famous because of the film "MAMMA MIA". At this place Meryl Streep sang the famous ABBA song "The winner takes it all".
The distance from Glossa to Agios Ioannis Kastri is about five kilometres. Through beautiful greenery the narrow road takes you through many bends to the beach of Agios Ioannis. At first sight you are immediately impressed with the hundred meter high rock in the sea with the small church on top. You must walk nearly 200 steps to reach the top, but it’s definately worth it. The view from above is breath-taking.
At the top is the church of Agios Ioannis. The church was built in the 18th century by fishermen who found an icon of John the Baptist on this place. Visiting Agios Ioannis Kastri is a must. After the climb you can take a swim in the turquoise sea. The beautiful sand-pebble beach is located to the right of the rock. Restaurants or terraces are not to be found here, but there is a kiosk where drinks and snacks are sold.
