Donoussa - Cyclades (Greece)
Donoussa. (Donoessa) is another one of those typical quiet Cycladic islands, with only 130 inhabitants. Foreign tourists hardly visit the island. It is mainly Greeks who spend their holidays on Donoussa.
The island is ideal for those who seek absolute peace. The most beautiful beach is the beach of Kedros. During the Second World War, Allies off the coast of Donoussa sank a German warship, and you can still see it from Kedros. Worth a mention, also, are the two beautiful caves that are only accessible by sea.
There are five villages on the island including the capital, Stavros. In Stavros there is a small harbor and one of the most beautiful beaches of Donoussa. There are no roads on the island, so do not expect there to take a car or a taxi. You can walk or hire a donkey!
Traditional festivals are held on August 15 (day of Saint Mary), September 14 (Stavrou) and September 17 (Day of Agia Sofia).
How to get to Donoussa
You can visit Donoussa with the Small Cyclades Lines (Express Skopelitis) from Naxos, Piraeus, Amorgos, Astypalaia and Paros.
