Kalithea - Rhodes (Greece)
KALITHEA. Kalithea is a small village about 10 kilometers (6 mi) from Rhodes town and at the same time it’s the name of the municipality on the eastern coast of Rhodes. Kalithea is also the name of the thermal springs located here. The words "kali” and “thea" literally mean "good view," and this is certainly true.
Formerly, Kalithea was famous for its therapeutic springs and thermal baths. There are several buildings reminiscent of this time. The buildings are an attraction themselves and the building with the spa was recently renovated. This is well worth a visit. Throughout the year various exhibitions are held. Here you can see locations from famous movies that have been filmed here such as "The Guns of Navarone" and "Zorba the Greek."
The grandeur of the baths has returned thanks to the renovations. In Kalithea are two small bays. One is used as a mooring spot for tourist boats belonging to those visiting the spa. Flanking this bay is a trendy beach bar with terrace, where young people from Rhodes meet in summer.
You can swim in these bays and use the small sandy beach. The water is crystal clear and diving lessons are given by several diving schools. The bus from Rhodes town stops right before the spa. You can also come by boat with a tour-boat trip. For those who come by car, there is a large parking area. In Kalithea you will find several major hotel chains, but there are also smaller and cheaper hotels and apartments available. The advantage of Kalithea is that it is close to Rhodes town and is located just a few kilometers from the stunning beaches of Faliraki.
